Southdown’s 2026 Funday lives up to the name

Southdown’s 2026 funday brought the whole club together this weekend for a fantastic celebration of football.

Young players from Under 6’s up to Under 16s came together at Leylands Park to enjoy football and celebrate another successful season.

The day kicked off with mini tournaments for our younger players as parents and players perused the cake stall for the wonderful array of treats baked by Southdown volunteers.

Our friends Joe and Dom from Football Fun Factory were in attendance with their giant football dart board and the kids had a great time trying to score a 180!

After the kids had finished playing it was the adults turn with parents playing coaches for the second season. This was the first time the match was competed for the newly minted Owen Williams Trophy. Southdown’s coaches ran out narrow winners by three goals to two to keep the bragging rights they first won in 2025. The parents v coaches match is fast becoming a club tradition that should carry on for years to come so parents will get the chance to get a first victory under their belts soon.

The day then moved on to the awards and medal presentations, with every player receiving a medal and each team giving out a range of awards to their players. The club also took the opportunity to celebrate the Under 9s and Under 10s who this season won their age group’s League Cup in the Crawley Youth League.

A wonderful day was had by all thanks to the tireless work of our Committee and the army of volunteers who manned the stalls, the bar and the raffle. Huge thanks to everyone who made the day such a success!
